The EU-supported sewing workshop attached to a convent in Kakheti is producing 5,000 medical masks in response to the coronavirus, which will be gifted to people at risk and medical staff in Dedoplistskaro municipality, the EU in Georgia press office said.
The nuns built the sewing workshop in 2019 with funding from the EU under the ENPARD programme and with the support of Dedoplistskaro Local Action Group (LAG).
The workshop offers tourists handmade items and souvenirs created with traditional Georgian ornaments. Also, it helps local women learn traditional handicrafts, find employment and receive an income.
