Georgian police have detained a 28-year-old man who set the former President Mikheil Saakashvili library in Tbilisi on fire yesterday.
The man began a Facebook live feed before setting the site on fire, saying he had found the source of the spread of the coronavirus.
He also declared himself a ‘king’ in the feed.
According to preliminary reports, the first floor of the library was burnt.
The crime is punishable by three to five years in prison.
The library was founded back in 2013 and offers a collection of contemporary literature in policy studies, social sciences, architecture and urban studies.
The library also provides newly published books in the fields of political theory and policy analysis, international relations and regional studies, national security, law, history and sociology, amongst others.
