The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has praised the steps of the Georgian government to support its citizens and the private sector amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The mission Chief for Georgia at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mercedes Vera-Martin said that the time needed for economic recovery can vary in different countries based on the effectiveness of measures in combat with the new coronavirus.
She noted that the steps taken by the Georgian government have been successful.
The IMF is allocating financial support for Georgia in the framework of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme to minimize the coronavirus’ impact on the Georgian economy.
Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said that the government has already been working on a post-crisis plan, which has two main priorities – health of the citizens and economic development.
He noted that Georgia hopes its economy will be supported by its international partners and donor organisations amid the coronavirus pandemic.
