Gov’t, think tanks to work on economic plan against coronavirus crisis

The measures implemented by the Georgian government to minimise the economic consequences of the COVID-19 crisis were emphasised during the video conference, including:
- subsidising utility bills for citizens
- deferring property and income tax payments for business

During the conference, participants discussed the country’s post-crisis economic policy as well to quickly regain its global competitiveness.
The Georgian Ministry of Economy has begun inspecting companies which want to continue offering e-commerce services after they were suspended in the country due to the state of emergency in the country to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, Economy Minister Natia Turnava has announced.
A total of 24,200,000 GEL (about $7.61m/€6.99m) has already been accumulated in the StopCov fund as of April 7. The funds raised in the StopCoV fund, that was created on March 23, will be used to meet 'identified needs'. Georgia has confirmed three new cases of coronavirus increasing the total number of cases to 211, including 50 recoveries and three deaths.
