Georgian sailor taken hostage by pirates in Africa released

Georgian sailor Otar Vardidze, who was kidnapped with three foreign crew members by pirates from Greek-flagged tanker in the Africa’s Port of Lome, Togo Terminal on November 4 has been released today, Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.

One sailor who was from the Republic of Philippines has died, reports the ship-owner company, European Product Carriers.

The company says the death reason was illness, not violence.

Two out of the kidnapped sailors, who are from The Republic of Philippines and Greece have been also released today.
