Georgia will receive €35 million from the French Development Agency (AFD) to support social welfare reforms, announced the Ministry of Finance today.
The agreement was signed between Georgia and the French Development Agency (AFD) earlier today.
AFD is cooperating with Georgia in the framework of a 3-year (2018-2020) social programme which aims to develop the social support and solidary system.
The programme includes the following areas:
- Provision of adequate services to persons with disabilities
- Adequate, affordable and quality health care system
- Optimisation of resource allocation for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) which details the closure of the damaged buildings and the provision of in need families with a relevant housing.
In the framework of this programme, the first trance worth €35 million has already been transferred to Georgia in the beginning of this year.
The German government is allocating €161.7 million to support Georgian investment projects in infrastructural development, energy, municipal development, environmental protection, vocation education and other areas, the Georgian Ministry of Finance reports.
Georgian Finance Minister Ivane Matchavariani has signed a €60 million loan with German Development Bank (KfW) to develop water infrastructure in Batumi and a €120 million loan in total from KfW and French Development Bank (AFD) to develop the country’s energy sector.

The French Development Agency (AFD) is offering €35 million to Georgia to support reforms planned by the government of Georgia in order to improve the social welfare system in the country.
The French Development Agency (AFD) has approved a grant of €300,000 under its technical expertise and experience exchange (FEXTE) fund to support the newly established National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring of Georgia to promote the development of modern agriculture.
French Ambassador to Georgia Diego Colas announced the provision of the new grant on June 17 at a conference where the conclusions of the first technical assistance programme implemented in 2017-2020 were presented.
