Cyprus police detain 17 Georgians for illegal stay in the country

Police in Cyprus have detained 17 Georgian citizens for illegally staying in the country.

The Greek media has reported that the detained individuals were employed in a construction company using fake documents in Limassol, a city on the southern coast of Cyprus.

A court has sentenced the Georgian citizens to eight days in jail. After that, the illegal immigrants will be deported in Georgia.

2,561 Georgian citizens have been deported from foreign states between January and September of 2019, the Georgian Interior Ministry says.

As of 2018, 4,584 Georgian citizens were deported from foreign countries, with most of them being deported from Turkey, Israel and Germany.
