Cyprus police detain 17 Georgians for illegal stay in the country

Police in Cyprus have detained 17 Georgian citizens for illegally staying in the country.
The Greek media has reported that the detained individuals were employed in a construction company using fake documents in Limassol, a city on the southern coast of Cyprus.
A court has sentenced the Georgian citizens to eight days in jail. After that, the illegal immigrants will be deported in Georgia.
2,561 Georgian citizens have been deported from foreign states between January and September of 2019, the Georgian Interior Ministry says.
As of 2018, 4,584 Georgian citizens were deported from foreign countries, with most of them being deported from Turkey, Israel and Germany.
4,566 Georgians were deported from foreign countries last year, with more than half of the people have been deported from Israel and Turkey, a report released by the state migration commission reads.
Greek police have arrested a 40-year-old Georgian national who was caught driving a refrigerated truck with 41 migrants in the back, the Guardian reports.
Cyprus has added Georgia to the list of safe countries. Cyprus is now the 13th country in the EU/Schengen zone to put Georgia on the safe country list. Following this decision, Georgian asylum-seekers’ applications will be examined in an accelerated mode.
A total of 1,760 Georgian citizens have been deported across the globe in the first six months of 2017. Georgia’s Interior Ministry revealed the statistics today.
Movement along the Enguri Bridge crossing point between occupied Abkhazia and the rest of Georgia has been restricted, after two people were killed in Sokhumi at noon yesterday. The media reports that people are being allowed to enter Abkhazia but not to leave the region.
The Greek police have detained a 36-year-old Georgian citizen for transporting 13 Afghan illegal migrants without driver’s license. Local media report that the Afghan migrants did not have the necessary documents to stay in Greece legally.
TV channel Formula reported today that 60 Georgian citizens were deported from Sweden and Germany. Formula TV also reported that the Georgian citizens were living in Germany and Sweden and wanted to seek asylum there.
