Subsistence minimum for average household in October 2019 reached 323.5 GEL ($108.8/€98.7) which is 32 ($10.8/€9.8) GEL more compared to the same period of last year, show data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
The subsistence minimum is a level of minimum income for one individual.
The term reflects consumer goods per capita in nominal terms which should meet the psychological and social needs of the person. People whose income is below this level are considered to be in material need.
The monthly increase of the subsistence minimum for the average household is 4.9 GEL ($1.6/€1.5).
Subsistence minimum for average consumer in October 2019 was 170.8 GEL ($57.5/€52.1), which is an increase of 2.6 GEL ($0.9/€0.8) compared to the previous month.
Subsistence minimum for average consumer is 16.9 GEL ($5.7/€5.2) more in October 2019 compared to the same period of last year.
Subsistence minimum for working age male was 192.9 GEL ($64.9/€58.8) in October 2019, which is 3 GEL ($1/€0.9) more than it was in September this year. The subsistence minimum for working age male in October 2019 is 19.1 GEL ($6.4/€5.8) more than it was in the same period of last year.
The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) has been calculating the subsistence minimum based on the minimum consumer basket which is calculated according to the “Norms of determining the composition of minimum food basket for subsistence minimum regarding food substance and energy for physiology demand”.
Geostat has been calculating the subsistence minimum since 2004.
