Ranger Gagika Mikosyan has found a pink flamingo in the Javakheti National Park of Georgia today.

This species of bird does not live in the area. The ranger says the flamingo likely fell behind a group of other birds while flying over the sky of Javakheti National Park.

This is not the first time that flamingos have been visited in Javakheti National Park,” reads the official page of the Agency of Protected Areas (Georgia).

Rich in lakes, unique marshes, subalpine and alpine meadows, Javakheti National Park combines Madatafi, Suld, Khanchali, Kartsakhi and Bugdashen reserves.  It is located at the top of Javakheti in Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda municipalities. It is one of the important corridors of bird migration”, the page reads.

Lake Khanchali especially attracts the birds. It is one of the warmest and smallest lakes in the world with 80 cm depth. The clear water helps birds to catch fish in the lake.

Every year in late October flamingos cross the Georgian sky in groups of five or six as they migrate towards the south in search of warmer climates.
