Georgian judoka Lukhum Chkhvimiani has made a history by winning the World Championships Senior 2019 in Tokyo, Japan.
Chkhvimiani, 26, told the International Judo Federation that "gold is just unbelievable. It is a dream come true".
This is a very special day for me. To become the World Champion here in Tokyo, Japan, the land of judo and in the legendary Budokan is just too much to take in right no", Chkhvimiani said.
He further noted that while travelling to compete in Japan he "would have settled for any colour of medal".
Chkhvimiani finds the Georgian judo team as a very strong one as the Georgian judokas have become European, World and Olympic champions at different times.
In all categories, our judokas are contenders being able to go for medals here in Tokyo. Hence, I wish success to my teammates for the following days", Chkhvimiani concluded.
The Japanese capital of Tokyo is hosting the World Championships Senior 2019 on August 25-31.
