Tbilisi City court has sentenced Lela Ksovreli for inflicting deadly injuries to her four-year-old daughter, causing the death of the minor.

Ksovreli does not admit to the crime.

The incident took place back in January 2019, giving rise to public anger against state agencies, as the convict had a restraining order when the fatality took place and had no right to be with the child.

Head of the Social Service Agency of the Ministry of Health of Georgia Mari Tsereteli resigned due to the case, while two social workers were dismissed.

The court said that Ksovreli was beating her daughter systematically and inflicted fatal injuries to the head on January 21, 2019.

The Emergency Management Service was called by Ksovreli and her husband as they “were unable to wake the child up.”

Doctors said that the child was already dead when they came to the site.

Ksovreli says that her deceased daughter, Nino Zalinashvili, was hyper-active and the damages and bruises were observed because of this.

However, autopsy results show that the injuries were inflicted by an individual other than the child herself.
