Wanted ex-employee of the Interior Ministry of Georgia Giorgi Samushia has been extradited to Georgia from Ukraine.

Giorgi Samushia, who is charged with the illegal deprivation of liberty and torture, was detained in Ukraine earlier in May.

Police reported that Samushia, on the demand of former top law enforcement officials of the United National Movement government David Akhalaia, Giorgi Kalandadze, Megis Kardava and Roman Shamatava, illegally detained Georgian citizen Elberg Koberidze in the summer of 2012.

Afterwards they tortured Koberidze to make him admit to the invented charge – planning a terrorist attack.

As a result of the torture Koberidze was unconscious for 10 days in Gori Military Hospital.

Samushia was sentenced to nine month of pretrial detention in December 2015. Afterwards the court changed the decision and released him on bail.

Former Georgian official Giorgi Samushia illegally left Georgia in 2015.
