Head of company sentenced to detention in case of teenage death at construction site in Tbilisi

Head of GVK Hospitality construction company  Shishu Pal Burdak was arrested after a 16-year-old died at the company’s construction site last week. 

The judge did not grant the motion of the defence to have the detainee released on 30,000 GEL ($10,435/€9,301) bail. 

The detainee does not plead guilty and states he is not aware of how the teenager entered the construction area.

16-year-old Giorgi Beshkenadze died on a construction site on Dolabauri Street, in Tbilisi on July 16.

Beshkenadze died while working on an elevator shaft.

More than 400 have died in the workplace between 2010 and 2018, official statistics of the Interior Ministry read.
