A former employee of the Georgian Interior Ministry, who is charged with the illegal deprivation of liberty and torture, has been detained in Ukraine, the Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office reported earlier today.
Giorgi Samushia, who went on the run in 2015, has been found and apprehended by Interpol.
Samushia, on the demand of former top law enforcement officials of the United National Movement government-David Akhalaia, Giorgi Kalandadze, Megis Kardava and Roman Shamatava, illegally detained Georgian citizen Elberg Koberidze in the summer of 2012.
Then the individuals tortured Koberidze to make him admit to the invented charge-a planning of a terrorist act,” the Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office says.
Koberidze was unconscious for 10 days and was revived with the help of doctors in Gori Military Hospital.
Samushia was charged with the case in December 2015, under the Georgian Dream leadership and was sent to nine-month pre-trial detention.
However, while in detention the court changed the decision and released him on bail, when Samushia illegally left the country.
