Occupying forces have abducted 80-year-old Amiran Meladze from the Kvesheti village of the Gori municipality, near Georgia’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region.

The Georgian State Security Service says that the man was illegally detained on May 5, while he was picking greens in his garden.

The European Union Monitoring Mission has been informed of the illegal detention.

In most cases, illegally detained Georgian citizens are released after paying a fine, which amounts to 32 USD.

Occupying forces have detained 327 Georgian citizens  for “illegally crossing the border” between 2017 and 2019 in the two Russia-controlled Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).
