Tbilisi will host the meeting of the World Bank executive board for the first time in May this year, Georgia’s Finance Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze said after a meeting with the World Bank Group’s Executive Director, Frank Heemskerk, which was held in Washington DC yesterday.
Mamuka Bakhtadze and Frank Heemskerk discussed Georgia’s macroeconomic data and economic growth at the meeting.
The World Bank’s executive has said that the bank is ready to continue financing projects in the fields of road infrastructure, energy, agriculture and regional development.
"Georgia is moving from a reformer even more to a performer. I was very happy that the Minister of Finance has invited the board of the World Bank for first time in the history to come and pay a visit to Tbilisi in May. I am sure my colleagues will enjoy the hospitality of Georgia but also we will see the huge progress that Georgia has made with excellent economic performance,” Frank Heemskerk said.
On April 21-22 Georgia’s Finance Minister is attending IMF/World Bank spring meetings in Washington DC bringing together central bankers, ministers of finance and private sector executives to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication and economic development.
During his visit Mamuka Bakhtadze has already met with Alastair Wilson, head of sovereign ratings at Moody’s, vice president of the compact operations department at Millennium Challenge Corporation, Robert Blau and the head of federal department of economic affairs, education and research of Swiss Confederation, Johann N. Schneider-Ammann to discuss the bilateral partnership while the free trade agreement between Georgia and EFTA (European Free Trade Association) will be implemented starting May 1st.
