FM pushes forward Tatunashvili’s case with UN office head

The Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze has paid particular attention to the most recent death of Georgian citizen Archil Tatunashvili in the country’s occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region during his meeting with Michael Moller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
The officials highlighted the importance of the international community’s adequate response to such facts.
Janelidze and Moller also touched upon the enforcement process of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Georgia’s achievements in this regard.
Focus was also made on Georgia’s chairmanship of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) and preparations for the OPG global summit that will be held in Georgia in July this year.
The United States (US) is deeply concerned by the death of Georgian citizen Archil Tatunashvili during his February 22 arrest and detention in the Russian-occupied Georgian territory of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia). US is also deeply concerned by the arrest of other Georgian citizens Levan Kutashvili and Ioseb Pavliashvili.
The Council of Europe (CoE) Congress President Gudrun Mosler-Törnström shared her concern over the death of Georgian citizen Archil Tatunashvili in the Russian occupied region of Georgia – Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).
The international community continues to condemn the death of Georgian citizen Archil Tatunashvili in unclear circumstances in the occupied Tskhinvali region. The Director for Eastern Europe of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany Andreas Peschke has tweeted that his country shares the EU’s concerns over the death.
The European Union (EU) Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar is concerned about the death of Georgian citizen Archil Tatunashvili in the country’s Russian occupied Tskhinvali region. Klaar believes the upcoming Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meeting scheduled on March 1 is the right format to establish facts about the case.
The body of the 35-year-old Georgian soldier, Archil Tatunashvili, who died in unclear circumstances in the occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region on February 23, has been handed over to representatives of the government of Georgia several minutes ago, 26 days after his death.
