500 guests discuss aviation challenges at European Aviation Forum in Tbilisi

More than 500 representatives of 65 airline companies and 250 airports are visiting Georgia’s capital city of Tbilisi to participate in the European Aviation Forum, CONNECT 2018.
Tbilisi is hosting the large-scale event from February 20-22.
During these three days the delegates will discuss existing and expected challenges in the field of air traffic, and will provide grounds for cooperation between airlines and airports for new flights.
The air companies including Royal Dutch Airlines, Gulf Air, Wizz Air, Ryanair, Ukraine International Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and many others have already been registered for participation in the European Aviation Forum.
Georgia’s Economy Minister Dimitry Kumsishvili announced that it is an honour for Georgia to host the CONNECT 2018 forum.
Kumsishvili said one of the most important priorities of the government is the development of the Georgian air market.
He stated that growing indicators and the diversification of the aviation market in recent years is the result of the government’s successful and coordinated work.
The total number of passengers served by Georgia’s three international airports amounted to 4,073,959 in 2017. With 12 percent, Turkish Airlines tops the list of the most popular airline companies operating in Georgia.

The largest private airline operating in Kuwait, Jazeera Airways, is interested in the Georgian aviation market, announced TAV Georgia, the Turkish-owned company that operates Georgia’s Tbilisi and Batumi international airports.
Georgia is improving its position in the rating of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), gaining the highest scores compared to other countries in the region. As Georgia’s Ministry of Economy today announced, Georgia moved from 106th to 30th position in the ICAO rating according to the preliminary data.
Georgia’s cargo airline, GEO SKY, has become the third local airline to receive European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) authorisation, confirming it meets international operational and safety standards.
Georgia takes the first place in the region, 10th in Europe and 30th in the world in terms of implementation and supervision of international aviation standards, says the official audit report of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
