Electricity consumption in Georgia was up 6.9 per cent in 2017 year-on-year at 11.20 billion kWh of electricity.
Electricity generation was reduced by 0.4% in Georgia in 2017 compared to the previous year and reached 11.53 million kWh, show the latest data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
“The increase in electricity consumption is mainly due to the expansion of production volume, as well as due to the increased demand on electricity in the service sector and households”, said Geostat.
In 2017, 32,000 tonnes of crude oil were obtained in Georgia (17.1% less compared to 2016), 268,100 tonnes of coal (-9.6%) and 8.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas (+28.8%).
Also, 1.93 million cubic meters of firewood in 2017 – 5.6% less compared to 2016.
Last year 1.72 billion cubic meters of natural gas were consumed in Georgia in 2017 (+7.7% y/y) and 1.26 million tonnes of oil products (-9.5% y/y), said Geostat.
