Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has stated at today’s governmental meeting that it is time to end the driving of black jeeps by state officials and government members and instead advocated the use of environmentally friendly transport.

Kvirikashvili made the statement in the wake of 96 electric and hybrid cars being gifted to Georgia’s Interior Ministry by the Government of Japan.

I want to address you [ministers] and the head of the Administration of the Government of Georgia. It is time to end the black jeep era. Everyone is irritated by the jeeps, me among them. It is time to do away with the vehicles and move on to ecologically clean cars,” Kvirikashvili said.

The PM stated the change should start on the ministerial level and then expand to the whole government.

Kvirikashvili said that as the change required financial resources, the process will be carried out gradually.

The PM said that the only exception to this rule will be the meeting of foreign delegations with such jeeps.
