A Berlin venue for literature will host a group of Georgian and German authors in a showcase of their new translated works, within a programme of Georgia’s participation as Guest of Honour at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair.
At Literaturhaus Lettrétage in the capital, eight writers from each country will meet readers and take part in discussions and presentations between August 29-September 2.
A cast of German actors will read works by the Georgian creatives who were selected during a Tbilisi conference organised earlier this year.
Hosted by the Georgian National Book Centre and the Berlin venue, the five-day April event revealed the eight authors whose works would be made available in German.
Now they will be joined by their counterparts from Germany to invite literature enthusiasts within Berlinisi — the Festival of Young German and Georgian Literature — at Literaturhaus Lettrétage.
The authors from the two countries are Zura Abashidze, Tornike Chelidze, Nini Eliashvili, Nika Lashkhia, Ketevan Meparidze, Tako Poladashvili, Giorgi Shonia, Anina Tepnadze, Helene Bukowski, Julia Dorsch, David Frühauf, Marie Gamillscheg, Titus Meyer, Rudi Nuss, Lorena Simmel und Saskia Warzecha.
Georgian literature and authors have been participating in events and festivals in the run-up to the Frankfurt Book Fair in October.
The state programme Georgia Made by Characters has been designed to introduce them to the German-speaking readers and industry professionals as a preparation for Georgia’s status of the official Guest of Honour at the largest worldwide book event.
