16,967 foreigners worked in Georgia in January-June 2018

A total of 16,967 foreign citizens were working in Georgia in January-June 2018, local media outlet BPN reports based on information provided by the Georgian Revenue Service.

Meanwhile in 2017, 22,718 foreigners worked in the country.

Georgia’s Ministry of Economy conducted a special study in 2017, to find out in which sectors are foreign citizens employed in Georgia.

The survey showed that foreign citizens are mainly employed in economic sectors, such as:

  • Construction - 5,560 employees (31.6 percent of total employment for foreign nationals)
  • Wholesale and retail trade - 4,757 employees (27 percent)
  • Transportation and warehousing - 13,866 employees (7.9 percent)
  • Administrative and support services - 1,260 (7.2 percent)
  • Tourism - 1,231 (7 percent)

The least number of foreigners are employed in healthcare and social services - 466 (2.7 percent), art, entertainment and recreation - 350 (two percent) and agricultural enterprises - 189 (1.1 percent), shows statistics.
