Investigators of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia have seized unregistered gold jewelry in especially large quantities at Georgian border checkpoints, on the border with Turkey.

The people, who have not been identified, have tried to smuggle in 11,2 kg gold from Turkey in Georgia via the Sarpi and Vale checkpoints.

The cost of the jewelry exceeds 670,000 GEL [274,000 USD].

The detainees face 5-7 years in prison for contraband.
