Parliament approves new government of Georgia

The parliament of Georgia has granted a vote of confidence to the new cabinet of Georgia and the 2018-2020 Freedom, Rapid Development and Prosperity Government Programme initiated by the Prime Minister.
PM Bakhtadze, his cabinet and programme were approved by 101 votes against 12 in the 150-seat parliament at an extraordinary session last night. The new government was not supported by lawmakers from European Georgia.PM Bakhtadze thanked the parliament for supporting his cabinet and programme and promised to implement all the reforms and initiatives initiated by his team in short period of time.
"We will be governing for the interests of each Georgian citizen and we will prove it very soon,” Mamuka Bakhtadze said.
The new cabinet consists of 10 ministers and one state minister after PM Bakhtadze carried out structural changes and reduced the number of ministries and state ministers’ offices from 14 to 11. There are three newcomers for the positions of minister of economy, finance and education in the cabinet.
Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze has expressed his readiness to cooperate with any public or political group that have ‘constructive views’ and ideas about solving issues faced by the country today.
Acting Economy Minister presents economic development plan
The candidate for minister of economy Giorgi Kobulia has presented his vision for the country’s economic development at a joint meeting of parliamentary committees today. Kobulia put forward four main challenges and shared his ideas on how to overcome them.
There are three newcomers: Mikheil Batiashvili as the Minister of Education and Science, Ivane Machavariani as the Minister of Finance, and Giorgi Kobulia as the Minister of Economy.
"Our first idea is to fully annul the tax arrears of the period before January 1, 2013”, PM designate Mamuka Bakhtadze said at the parliamentary majority meeting today. Bakhtadze presented the governmental program ‘Freedom, fast development, prosperity’ to MPs today.
