The President of Georgia, as the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the country, has issued a decree allowing the emergency response group to use the Georgian military forces to deal with the flooding and landslide disaster results in Mestia municipality.A landslide caused the river Nenskra to flood beginning from July 5 which resulted in dozens of damaged houses, as well as bridges and motorways across the Chuberi community involving several villages.
The Eastern Command of the Land Forces and the Logistic Support Command of the General Staff will now be involved in the disaster response process, according to the presidential decree.
Following the decree the emergency response group has appealed to the Ministry of Defense for additional enginerial machinery to restore six bridges damaged by the disaster.
Due to the absence of bridges the two sides of the river are cut off and workers are hindered from delivering necessary equipment to respond to the emergency situation at especially damaged places.
"The fastest way to restore motorway communication would be the use of a panel military bridge which would allow construction equipment to strengthen the left bank of the river and restoration work,” the emergency response group wrote in the letter to the Ministry of Defense.
According to the Minister of Refugees Sozar Subari the danger of the disaster repeating has been reduced to a minimum.
Specialists have investigated the valley of Nenskra and Dolra, as well as the Becho community and have found that the danger has been practically eliminated, he said.
12 heavy machines and more than 20 trucks are working in Chuberi currently.
More than 20 houses have been damaged as a result of disaster. The government will provide those affected with alternative housing, according to Subari.
