Acclaimed contemporary artist Vajiko Chachkhiani will hold his first personal display in Japan with the exhibition Moment in and out of time, set to open in Tokyo this week.
The young creative will exhibit his installation of the same title at SCAI The Bathhouse, a downtown gallery situated in a Tokyo district of art venues.
His 2014 installation will bring to the venue a work in the form of a metal door that once served as access to a solitary confinement chamber.

Through the work, as with his other installations, Chachkhiani explores "psychological states exposed to historical and otherwise traumatic events”, said a preview for the display.
Chachkhiani alludes to the history of an individual and of a collective, by making his work a witness to perplexed human life.”
With a subtle interplay between the reality and the imaginary, the existential dimensions of Chachkhiani’s work reveal and defend a secret of human psyche”, said the hosts.
The Georgian artist is the creator of the installation hosted at the country’s pavilion for last year’s Venice Biennial.
He was also shortlisted for the Future Generation Art Prize, founded by Kiev-based Victor Pinchuk Foundation and celebrating artists aged up to 35.
Chachkhiani, who lives and works in Tbilisi and Berlin, graduated from the University of Arts in the German capital in 2013.
Established in 1993, SCAI The Bathhouse is located in Kashiwayu, a "venerable public bath with a 200-year history”, said the gallery’s website.
Vajiko Chachkhiani’s personal display will run at the venue from January 26-February 24.
