Tbilisi condemns illegal deal between Russia, breakaway Abkhazia region

The Georgian Foreign Ministry is denouncing the signing of yet another illegal cooperation deal between Russia and Georgia’s breakaway Abkhazia region.
Official Tbilisi says the deal, signed today, is"clear proof of the process of the factual annexation of the occupied region”.
Today, Russia and the de-facto leadership of Abkhazia signed an agreement about establishing a joint information and coordination center of the interior ministries of Russia and Abkhazia.
"This so-called agreement fully neglects the fundamental principles of the international law, including state sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of internationally recognised borders. This is an intended action by the Russian Federation to hamper Georgia’s peace policy supported by the international community”, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
It added that such actions contribute to the destabilisation of the situation in the region.
The Ministry stressed that the "illegal processes” that are taking place in Georgia’s occupied regions stress the urgency of firm and consolidated international efforts.
"We are calling on the international community to take actual measures to prevent annexation of Georgia’s occupied regions and step up for de-occupation of Georgia”, the Ministry said.
The United States House of Representatives has passed a legislative act banning the US government from financially helping countries that recognise the independence of Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions.
Georgia is prevented from exercising its jurisdiction over its occupied regions due to the illegal actions of Russia including its military presence there, says the latest decision of the Council of Europe.
Georgia has registered a draft document with the title - Situation of Human Rights in the Occupied Territories of Georgia – to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
The European Union (EU) welcomes the Council of Europe’s (CoE) latest report on the conflict in Georgia and considers it important to keep this issue high on the political agenda of the organisation.
The Russian occupation forces deployed in central Georgia have moved the occupation line further into Georgian territory. This step saw about 10 more hectares of Georgian soil in the heart of the country now become occupied by Russia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has issued a statement expressing its "deep concern” over the illegal installation of a so-called border sign across the occupation line in the breakaway Tskhinvali region, in the area of Bershueti village, Gori district.
Russian occupying forces have detained two Georgian citizens in the village of Bershueti in Gori Municipality, near the country’s eastern occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region.
The Russian occupation forces continue the illegal process of the so-called borderisation.
