Hungary opens €85m credit line for Georgia

Georgia is looking at ways to enhance its business ties with Hungary and attract more Hungarian investors, especially in the fields of energy, construction, agriculture and consulting.

For this reason a Georgian-Hungarian Business Forum is taking place in Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi where hundreds of companies of both countries are represented. Within the Forum the company representatives will have a business-to-business (B2B) meetings where they will establish business communication.

This will be a very pragmatic meeting between businesses which will be supported by the government delegations. I am sure the meeting will be followed by the specific business activities. Hungary is mostly interested in Georgia’s processing, production, construction, pharmacy and water resource management fields”, said Georgia’s Economy Minister Giorgi Gakharia.

The Minister also announced that today the two countries will sign an agreement on protection of investments that guarantees investments will not be lost and be protected from fraud.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Siarto claimed Georgia was one of the most important political and trade partners of Hungary in the region.

We have wonderful political relations. We are strong supporters of Georgia’s integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures. Now it is time for the business and economic cooperation to be brought to the next level. We are signing an investment protection agreement and opening an €85 million credit line for Georgia,” Siarto said.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also attended the Business Forum. He encouraged Hungarian investors to be more interested in Georgia.

I want to share my personal view of Georgia to Hungarian investors and assure them that Georgia is really a very stable country. The Government of Georgia is implementing number of reforms for reducing bureaucracy and forming the educational system”, said Orban.

We regularly get information about the Georgia-Russia conflict. Hungary supports Georgia’s territorial integrity. Despite the tense situation between Georgia and Russia, this country [Georgia] has a stable economic and foreign policy and there is no problem for your business activities,” Orban told Hungarian investors.
