EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini says that the European Union and the Eastern Partnership (EaP) need each other to carry out a "very ambitions EU program” which should be carried out by 2020.

Mogherini made the statement a month before the EaP meeting in Brussels, in her video address to the civil forum in Tallinn, Estonia.

The EaP summit, in a way, begins today with your meeting in Tallinn because everything we do for our eastern partners we do for your countries and ours,” Mogherini said.

Mogherini addressed the six member nations of the EaP- Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine- to have their say as "you know the needs and aspiration of your people more than anyone else”.

EaP is not about geopolitics or spheres of influence. It is about making real, positive differences to the lives of citizens,” Mogherini says.

Mogherini stated that the EU would present 20 concrete proposals which should be fulfilled by 2020.

We [EU] will need your help to carry out the plan. We are partners and we need each other to achieve common goals,” she stated.

The 5th Eastern Partnership summit will take place in Brussels (Europa building) on November 24.

Heads of state or government from the EU member states and the six Eastern partner countries will participate in it.

They will also take stock of what has been achieved since the last summit in Riga in 2015, focusing on the tangible benefits delivered to the citizens of the six Eastern Partnership countries, EU official webpage reads.

  • The EaP was launched in 2009 to promote political association and economic integration between the EU and the six Eastern European partner countries.

The summit will discuss how to further strengthen cooperation in the four priority areas already agreed:

  • stronger economy: economic development and better market opportunities
  • stronger governance: strengthening of institutions and good governance
  • stronger connectivity: enhancing interconnections, notably in the areas of transport and energy
  • stronger society: increasing mobility and contacts between people
