Defence Ministry awards its employees for fighting large-scale fires

Georgia’s Ministry of Defence has awarded its soldiers and civil servants for fighting large-scale fires in Borjomi and Ateni Gorge in late August.

Defence Minister Levan Izoria awarded people with department medals, office-based tools, paid gifts and cash prizes.

  • 1,374 soldiers received 625GEL (255USD) bonus each.
  • 100 soldiers received medals for showing particular bravery during the fires.
  • 107 soldiers and civil servants received office-based tools.
  •  957 soldiers and 7 civil servants were thanked for their roles in the course of fires.
  •  228 soldiers were awarded with honorary deeds and 42 civil servants with certificates of appreciation.

Defence Ministry employees got involved in the fight against the fire on August 23.

The Ministry also provided more than 90 different military techniques, special techniques among them, to effectively fight the fire.
