Strong wind, heavy rain hits Georgia’s coastline

Strong wind and heavy rain has crashed down on Georgia’s western Ozurgeti municipality, damaging buildings and causing problems for locals.
Trees fell down and roofs have been ripped off dozens of houses in Black Sea resort towns of Ureki and Natanebi, announced Ozurgeti Municipality government.
Furthermore, strong winds and heavy rain damaged power lines, outdoor lighting, cars owned by local residents.

The strong wind and heavy rain started yesterday in Ozurgeti, while today already the roads are cleaned and the electricity supply is restored.
A special working group has been created to assess losses.
UPDATED: It is the third day that a massive forest fire which broke out in the Borjomi Gorge is still raging in Central Georgia. The latest estimations say that tens of hectares of forestland is on fire.
Traffic has been resumed in the Dariali Gorge in northern Georgia and the Kazbegi Customs checkpoint has continued all operations, announces the Revenue Service of Georgia’s Ministry of Finance.

June is yet again proving to be a difficult month for Georgia in terms of weather. Heavy rainfall over the past several days has caused major infrastructural problems in the Samegrelo region in the western part of Georgia.
Many of the streets of Georgia’s third largest city of Kutaisi have been flooded after a river expanded over its riverbed following a heavy rainfall. Weather experts expect a powerful, magnitude-seven storm at the Black Sea coastline later today.
A magnitude-five storm is facing Georgia’s Black Sea coastal resort of Batumi today. Last night, the sea waves were as high as several metres and fully covered the promenades along the seafront.
