Representatives of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs have met the members of the public movement "Power is in Unity", who voiced their initiative over voluntary patrolling at the occupation line in order to protect the local people.

The Ministry representatives familiarized the movement members with  the risks and challenges of the initiative.

Occupation line is a high-risk area and any type of movement there includes risks,” they told  the people.
Consequently we do not think the initiative should be carried out,” the Ministry representatives said to the movement members.

They stressed police respected freedom of expression but preserved a right to act within the law if the movement anyway decided to do what they had announced.

The Ministry people stated that the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) and Interior Ministry units were patrolling at the occupation line with occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) and Abkhazia regions and protected the safety of locals.
