Former United States (US) Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is paying a visit to Georgia.

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili hosted Albright, who is currently the Chairperson of the National Democratic Institute (NDI), at a special dinner at the Presidential Palace last night.

I appreciate so much that you want to be held at high standards. You know that it’s what makes a great country… We are good friends, which means we can tell each other things that are difficult... [and] there is no question in terms of how difficult democracy is”, Albright said.

Thanking Margvelashvili for hosting her with the NDI delegation, Albright said Georgia has always been exemplary among other countries, with a variety of stages it has gone through these years.

She said checks and balances, rule of law and the role of media are very important for democratic development of the country as well as "watching how the constitution is being reformed”.

During the next days of her visit, Albright will learn more about the country’s achievements and its challenges, as well as observe NDI’s activities in Georgia and contribute to strengthening Georgia’s cooperation with the west.
