A hundred million dollars is being invested in a new cement plant in western Georgia to provide top quality cement for local and export markets.
Local businessman Cezar Chocheli, who owns a plastics company Interplast LLC, is teaming up with Chinese company to build the new cement plant in Senaki, in Georgia’s Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region.
The factory will produce Euro 4 standard cement for local use and for export.
An agreement will be signed on April 24 between the two parties, and further details about the partnership and new factory will be announced at the time.
About 500 people will be employed to build the new cement factory. Construction of the new plant will begin in June, said project officials today. The construction phase was expected to last for one year and the plant was expected to be operational in 2017.
Yesterday Chocheli met Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and discussed this and other projects he was interested in, including building new factories that processed essential oils and produced extracts.
Speaking on behalf of the Georgian Government, Kvirikashvili pledged support for the proposed projects and said they would contribute to developing Georgia’s economy by creating new jobs and producing locally-made products.
Chocheli said the raw materials would be sourced 100 percent from western Georgia.
