Georgia is ready to enhance and deepen cooperation with the Arab states of the Persian Gulf.

Georgia’s Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze met representatives of the Gulf Cooperation Council in New York, where Janelidze is participating in a high-level United Nations (UN) event.

The bilateral meeting focused on the recent increasing dynamics of cooperation between Gulf states and Georgia.

The Gulf Cooperation Council at the UN includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Janelidze talked about how the number of visitors from these countries to Georgia had increased in recent years, and said this trend supported the strengthening of person-to-person and business contacts between these states.

The Arab officials were briefed about the ongoing reforms in Georgia and the country’s investment potential.

Janelidze said Georgia was a hub linking Europe and Asia and the country was improving its railway, sea and road infrastructure to better play this role.

Georgia’s Foreign Minister is on a three-day visit to New York, which will end on April 21.
