OSCE supports Georgia’s civil equality strategy

A high official from the OSCE – the world’s largest security-oriented inter-governmental organisation that specialises in conflict prevention, crisis management and political negotiations – is in Tbilisi to show support for Georgia’s democratic development.

OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Astrid Thors met Georgia’s Prime Minister yesterday, where she stressed the OSCE was eager to support Georgia implement its Civil Equality and Integration Strategy that outlines strong support for national minorities. 

This and other issues related to national minorities were high on the agenda of the meeting. 

The OSCE top official praised Georgia for its efforts to assist and support national minorities and highlighted the importance of implementing the new Strategy, which was developed together with the OSCE.

Thors also appraised the Government’s new four-point reform agenda, particularly the part related to systemic reform of the country’s education system. 

Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili stressed his Government had pushed forth a range of social and infrastructural projects in which national minorities were heavily invovled. 

He also mentioned the Government had initiated a financial mechanism for start-up businesses that provided good opportunities for national minorities.
