French cinemas are set to screen Georgian filmmaker Zaza Urushadze's award-winning feature film Tangerines.

The Estonia-Georgia co-production, which was also nominated at the 2015 Academy Awards nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, will appear in French cinemas from April 6.

The film’s screening was first announced by Ace Entertainment distribution agency in February and confirmed at a special premiere yesterday.

French screenings of the film were formally announced at a special event on Tuesday, where director Zaza Urushadze (R) spoke at the occasion. Photo from Tangerines film page/Facebook.

The film’s Georgian director and others involved in the film were invited to the announcement event and confirmed Tangerines would be presented at the Cinema Le Lincoln in Paris, France.

Tangerines was named Best European Film at the annual Gaudi Awards in Spain in January 2016.

The film is set in the midst of the Georgian-Abkhazian war in the beginning of the 1990s when two Estonian immigrant farmers choose to stay in their tangerine farm in the conflict zone to collect the seasonal crop.

Their home becomes a potential hotspot of conflict when two wounded soldiers– one Abkhazian and the other Georgian – arrive at the doorstep looking for medical aid.

The unlikely cohabitants have to confront their feelings for each other on the backdrop of hostilities around them while they recuperate in the hospitality of the hosts.

The Oscar-nominated feature film involved a mixed cast of Estonian and Georgian actors.
