All the road sections are open in Georgia and safe for transporting except the three directions, where the threat of avalanche, storms and heavy rains are the major hindering points for drivers.

Following the non-stop cleaning works of all relevant bodies the 37-71 km road section of  western Kutaisi-Tkibuli-Ambrolauri route is open for all transport.

The three road sections facing restrictions are the following:

  • Gudauri-Kobi road section of the eastern Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi route is open only through snit-skid chains and for off-road vehicles; the transport must move in a non-stop regime  inside avalanche protecting tunnels; only one-way traffic is permitted for trailer, semi-trailers and the transport with more than 30-seat capacity in the tunnels;
  • The 173-188km road section of the western Zugdidi-Jvari-Mestia-Lasdili route is closed for all transport due to the avalanche threat. The 70-172km road section of the same route is open for off-road vehicles, all the other transport is permitted through snit-skid chains;
  • The 94-110 km road section of the southern Koda-Partskhisi-Manglisi-Tsalka-Ninotsminda route, which is a pass area, is closed for all transport;

The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia claims that all relevant bodies are alert to immediately clean the road sections as soon as the avalanche and other threats are removed.
