Georgia is thanking its international partners for donating more than 6 billion GEL to finance more than 400 projects throughout the country.
In Tbilisi today Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili opened the Annual Donor Coordination Forum, also regarded as the Annual Development Partnership Forum, which brought together representatives from international organisations, donor countries and financial institutions from all over the world who had contributed financially to Georgia’s development.
In his address Kvirikashvili thanked them for their instrumental support for Georgia.
Your support is invaluable for Georgia, which helps our country to return to the big European family where human freedom, human rights and the rule of law are core values. Your support helps Georgia become a leading country without poverty where its citizens can live comfortably and free,” said Kvirikashvili.
The Georgian high official outlined the Government’s priorities for developing the country’s economy. This included reforms in the education sector, governance, infrastructure and the regions.
At the end of his speech Kvirikashvili invited the guests to the Batumi in Georgia’s west, where the Eight Ministerial Conferences will be held in June.
Georgia’s Foreign Minister spoke at today’s forum about Georgia’s participation in the Millennium Development Goals, which range from halving extreme poverty rates to providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015.
He said Georgia had obligations in these directions and must implement them until 2030.
Janelidze thanked the donor organisations for their massive contribution towards developing Georgia.
The political, financial and economic support by donors played an important role in Georgia’s formation process as a state. Donors are helping Georgia develop our economy and strengthen our institutional abilities,” said Janelidze.
The Annual Donor Coordination Forum is one of the mechanisms for implementing the Paris Declaration on improving the effectiveness of foreign aid. Georgia joined the Paris Declaration in 2011. The Declaration determined the cooperation principles between donor countries and the countries which receive assistance.
