Georgia’s President saddened by Russia plane crash, killing 62

Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili has expressed his sorrow about a passenger jet crash which killed 62 people as it came into land at the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don early this morning.

"I express my deep condolences to the FlyDubai passenger plane crash in southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, which caused the loss of dozens of human lives,” the President said in a statement.

"On behalf of the Georgian people, I express our condolences and solidarity in this difficult moments to the families of victims”.

The FlyDubai Boeing 737-800, travelling from Dubai, missed the runway as it attempted to land at 3:50am local time on Saturday, killing all 55 passengers and seven crew members, officials said.

It is not clear what caused the crash but poor visibility and high winds are being considered as a factor, local media reported.
