Georgian reforms, the country’s Euro-Atlantic prospects and the situation in Georgia’s two occupied regions were high on the agenda of today’s meeting between Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Council of Europe (CoE) Georgian Office head Cristian Urse.
These issues and more were heavily discussed, but the sides also focused on the importance of the CoE-European Union (EU) Programmatic Cooperation Framework (PCF) program, designed to support reforms in Eastern Partnership countries and ensure they met EU standards in areas such as human rights, rule of law and democracy.
I had a very pleasant and productive meeting with the Georgian Prime Minister. Our dialogue is very important. We discussed cooperation areas that are doing quite well,” said Urse this afternoon.
What I mean by that is we enjoy good cooperation with the Cabinet of Ministers and various state agencies. Based on achieved results, we have a good opportunity to plan future activities,” he said.
Creating the CoE’s Action Plan on Georgia will be finalised in the near future and this will move bilateral relations to the next stage, he said.
We will work in the areas that best represent the main values of the CoE including the rule of law, combatting discrimination and effective work of institutions,” said Urse.
Georgia’s Prime Minister thanked the CoE official for his cooperation and support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
