Georgia’s President offers condolences over death of Fidel Castro

Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili has expressed his sadness over the death of former President and leader of revolution of Cuba Fidel Castro.

"I am deeply saddened to hear that the former President of Cuba, Mr. Fidel Castro has passed away. On behalf of the Georgian people, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and the whole nation of Cuba,” Margvelashvili said in a written statement released this afternoon.

He added that President Castro was a "remarkable leader, who strived for the welfare and advancement of his country in the most challenging period of the world history”.

"I truly believe that his extraordinary legacy will leave remarkable trace in the history of Cuba and the entire world”, Margvelashvili said.

Castro, one of the world's longest-serving and most iconic leaders, died aged 90, BBC reported.

His younger brother and successor as president Raul Castro announced the news on state television.

Castro toppled the government in 1959, introducing a Communist revolution.
