In the video, released today on the UK Embassy in Georgia Facebook page, Ambassador Smith said 100 years ago a British mission in Georgia supported the country’s democratic advancement and in the modern time, this was still the case.

Smith said before coming to Georgia he had held several meetings with UK state authorities and even the country’s rugby leadership.

I was struck by the genuine affection that [UK] people had for our relationship with Georgia, and after I have arrived here I feel the support of all the people behind me,” he said.

Smith replaced outgoing Ambassador Alexandra Hall Hall in the role.
