The delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly (PA) of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is in Georgia to discuss how Georgia was preparing for an international OSCE meeting scheduled for later this year.

The OSCE group met Georgia’s Prime Minister in capital Tbilisi today at the Government of Georgia Administration building. The sides spoke about the most challenging issues for Georgia and the country’s preparations for the OSCE PA 25th Annual Meeting.

Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili told OSCE PA representatives Kristian Vigenin and Roberto Montella about Georgia’s readiness for the international event, which will take place from July 1-5 in Tbilisi. The event is expected to attract about 700 politicians from more than 50 foreign states.

The Georgian PM stressed all relevant Georgian state bodies were working together to ensure the highest standards for the reception.

The OSCE PA is made up of more than 300 parliamentarians from the OSCE’s 57 member states, offering parliamentary input and taking action on OSCE-related work and facilitating cooperation between lawmakers.

The OSCE PA delegation also learned about the current political situation in Georgia and in its breakaway regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia). The guests reiterated to PM Kvirikahsvili about the OSCE’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Additionally, the guests spoke about the importance of this October’s Parliamentary Elections in Georgia and hoped the elections would be held in line with high, European standards.
