Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has paid a one-day official visit to Armenia today.

The Georgian leader met the neighbouring country’s top officials including President Serzh Sargsyan and Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

Abrahamyan met Kvirikashvili at Zvartnots International Airport earlier today and led him to an official welcoming ceremony where Armenia and Georgia’s national anthems were played.

After this the Georgian delegation went into central Yerevan to attend high-level meetings with other local authorities.

Kvirikashvili sat down with President Sargsyan and discussed the "close bilateral cooperation” in the areas of politics, economy and culture, and "particular attention was paid to trade and economy” relations.

"Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Serzh Sargsyan discussed security issues and declared that for the purpose of rapid and uninterrupted implementation of the economic projects, regional security has great significance,” read a statement by the Georgian Prime Minister’s press office.

After the meeting Sargsyan hosted Kvirikashvili and the Georgian delegation at an official dinner.

Kvirikashvili’s Armenia visit came five days after his visit to nearby Azerbaijan.
