Georgia is simplifying its land registration procedures and removing the barriers facing private owners who want to officially register their land.

From August 1, amendments to the land legislation will come into play.

Amendments to the legislation included:

  • Development of a unified standard for surveying drawings;
  • The state will help private owners to provide ownership documents;
  • The state will help owners to resolve land disputes.

The new rules were arranged by the Minister of Justice of Georgia following consultations with industry insiders.

The Ministry of Justice explained the Government wanted all privately owned land to be registered.

As of today only 25 percent of all land is registered in Georgia, which is quiet small. Amendments to the legislation will simplify the land registration process and encourage private owners to register their lands without any barriers,” said the Ministry of Justice.
While working on the legislation we discovered the problems that hampered land registration and we did our best to overcome them,” said the Ministry.

In March 2016 the Government of Georgia approved a draft law that outlined new rules for land registration for private owners.
