A seven-year old boy was saved by his dog after he became lost in the woods in Georgia's western Imereti region.
Luka Omiadze from Uzunti village in Sachkhere district, located about 150km northwest of capital Tbilisi, was rescued on Sunday morning after he became lost on Saturday and spent the night in the bush.
Despite the cool overnight temperatures, the 7-year-old didn’t suffer from hypothermia as his loyal canine companion kept him warm.
The seven year-old went walking with his dog on Saturday and did not tell his family he was heading out to explore. A short while later Omiadze became lost and was unable to find his way back home.
The boy’s family members discovered he was missing, contacted local authorities and began a search for the missing boy.
Omiadze's family and neighbours were joined by rescuers from the Imereti Region Emergency Situations Management Service and Sachkhere local administration representatives in the search for the missing boy.
The search lasted several hours but was fruitless.
Heavy rain on Saturday evening in the area complicated the work of the search team, and the bad weather forced the rescuers to call off the operation until Sunday.
Omiadze was rescued in the morning of June 12 when a member of the rescue group found him in the woods with his dog Mura.
The young boy told his rescuers he had spent the night in the forest and had kept himself warm by cuddling the family pet.
