Georgian Dream wins 7 of 9 constituencies

The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) coalition has won the majority of votes in yesterday’s Sakrebulo by-elections. 

Preliminary results published by Georgia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) revealed GD won seven of nine constituencies in the by-elections.

The by-elections were held yesterday to fill vacant seats in the Sakrebulo (local council) for eastern Gldani district of Tbilisi, Gardabani and Kaspi areas and western Tskaltubo, Ozurgeti, Khobi and Zugdidi municipalities. 

This afternoon head of the CEC Tamar Zhvania said votes from all 45 polling stations had been counted and the most votes went to the ruling GD coalition in seven electorates. The remaining two constituency votes were gained by United National Movement (UNM).

Results of the Sakrebulo By-Elections - Constituencies and winners: 

  1. Gldani - GD Candidate; 
  2. Gardabani, #21.08 election constituency - GD candidate; 
  3. Gardabani, #21.18 election constituency - GD candidate; 
  4. Kaspi - GD candidate; 
  5. Ozurgeti, #60.05 election constituency - UNM candidate; 
  6. Ozurgeti, #60.04 election constituency - GD candidate; 
  7. Khobi - GD candidate; 
  8. Zugdidi - UNM candidate; 
  9. Tskaltubo - GD candidate. 

Zhvania said voter turnout was very low in some districts. Preliminary results of voter turnout showed:

  • Gldani district - 14.77 percent; 
  • Gardabani - 32.83 percent;
  • Kaspi - 47.97 percent;
  • Tskaltubo – 55.99 percent;
  • Ozurgeti – 56.94 percent;
  • Khobi – 50 percent; 
  • In Zugdidi election district – 64.19 percent.
