The majority lawmakers have stated that introducing the registration ban on right-hand drive vehicles might be delayed and instead of March 2016 the process may take place from the second half of the year.

The lawmakers said that the major reason of postponing the issue was better studying of the issue and obtaining the solution meeting the interests of both-population and businesses.

In December 2015 the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia stated that the number of right-hand drive vehicles was "alarmingly” increasing in the country and that the process should be regulated through introducing the registration ban.

However, Government stressed no other restrictions but registration would be introduced for right-hand drive vehicles, and owners who have already registered and drive their right-hand drive vehicle in Georgia will not face any problems.

The issue was touched on by Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvrikashvili at today’s Governmental meeting.

The PM reiterated that the owners of the right-hand drive vehicles, who have their cars already registered, will face no problems even when selling the property.

However, when it comes to the import of the right-hand drive vehicles we will not take a step back and will necessarily address the issue.”
We must take actions as they are in the public interests. We must take various steps to settle the horrible transport problems especially in the capital city.”

The PM highlighted that without restrictions on transport, not only on right-rand drive vehicles, the capital city would face serious security threats on roads and unfavourable health-related complications.

In this context the PM also addressed the reduction the effects of vehicle emissions created by unroadworthy cars.
