As Georgia strives towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration, informing society of the country’s integration progress is "essential” and in this sense, the country is doing a good job, says a United Kingdom (UK) official who is in Georgia on official business.

Director of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Directorate of the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Sarah Swinford, met Georgia’s State Minister on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration David Bakradze yesterday, April 29.

The UK envoy said the methods used by Georgia to disseminate information to society about the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration process were adequate but more could be done. In this sense, the UK was ready to support Georgia to establish "the right communication” methods with its population around the Euro-integration topic.

At the meeting the sides also discussed Georgia’s preparation for next month’s Eastern Partnership (EaP) Summit in Riga, Latvia.

Bakradze and Swinford both underlined the importance of the decisions that will be made at the Riga Summit for Georgia and all EaP member countries, particularly in light of the current challenges in the region and issues of safety and security.

Bakradze said the UK supported Georgia’s expectations of the Summit. In addition, the UK was willing to deepen its bilateral cooperation with Georgia, he said.
